Creative writing

I completed a Bachelor of Theatre Arts at the University of Southern Queensland in 2009, majoring in Theatre Studies with a minor in Media Studies. I have completed Playlab’s Incubator program, ATYP’s Fresh Ink Mentoring Program and ATYP’s National Studio.

I’ve written a number of projects for digital production and the stage. As well as the projects highlighted below, my writing has been published in ATYP’s The Voices Project: Encore Edition, Australian Stage, Writing Queensland, Life Music Media, Junkee and The Financial Diet.

Rising

Rising premiered at Metro Arts in February 2020. Rising was commissioned by Playlab Theatre and co-written by five emerging female playwrights: Lauren Sherritt, Emily Burton, Madeleine Border, Sarah Wilson and Hannah Belanszky. Rising was reviewed by Theatre Haus, Weekend Notes, Stage Whispers and Blue Curtains.

Sans Love and One Black Mark at Anywhere Theatre Festival

In 2014 and 2015, I wrote, directed and co-produced two plays at Anywhere Theatre Festival, Sans Love and One Black Mark. Each experimented with form and style, playing with the divide between audience and performance and exploring audience participation in live theatre.

Reviews of Sans Love and One Black Mark can be found on The Creative Issue and Style From the Suburban Intellect.

Story City

I have written two digital interactive stories for Story City, an app which houses locative literature stories in cities and towns across the world. I wrote The Hero’s Apprentice in 2016 and Master of Time in 2018, which was produced in collaboration with QUT’s School of Landscape Architecture.

Professional Writing

My Amazing Body podcast

During 2019 and 2020, I produced Queensland Health’s My Amazing Body podcast, the first podcast for Queensland Health and one of the first by a Queensland Government Department. My Amazing Body is a podcast that explores interesting, unknown and misunderstood parts of your body, featuring interviews with medical experts and stories from real Queenslanders.

In my role, I wrote the script, researched and conducted interviews for each episode. I also managed the production team who edited the audio, advised on promotion across the Queensland Health social media channels and liaised on artwork design.

Over 3 seasons, My Amazing Body has been listened to nearly 500,000 times by a predominantly Queensland audience, has been featured by Spotify and Apple Podcasts, and topped the Australian Health & Fitness and Science podcast charts.

Could this be sepsis?

Queensland Health’s ‘Could this be sepsis?’ campaign ran over 2019-2020. It targeted Queensland audience groups including parents of young children and at-risk adults, teaching them to recognise the signs and symptoms of sepsis and seek emergency healthcare. My work involved producing a series of videos which were run on social media and the Queensland Health website, writing blog articles and guiding the production of social media posts. Over the reporting period, the videos were viewed over 1 million times and the articles read more than 180,000 times.

Queensland Health Blog

When I started at Queensland Health in 2017, my primary role was to write and manage the Queensland Health Blog. I have written more than 200 articles for the blog, with readership increasing from 171,000 article views in 2017 to more than 5.5 million in 2020.

I created a number of ongoing series for the blog, including ‘Everything you need to know about…’, ‘Myths and facts’, ‘Real Queenslander stories’ and the popular ‘A day in the life’ series, featuring staff stories.
